Buruanga is a small town of about 16500 inhabitants in the province of Aklan / Philippines. By bus, car or motorcycle it is around an hour away from Caticlan. The road to get there through the mountains leads you throuh some great sceneries and landscapes.
Buruanga is a very tidy, well kept and clean fishing place. It is not really known amongst tourist and can be concidered to be “off the beaten trail”.
A stroll through the small town gives you the impression to be in a “real” Philippino place.
Nothing there is made to please a tourist. It is – like it is. People there are friendly and, not like in some other places, that have set their minds to the “tourist melking” business only out on making a quick buck.
We were shown around the elementary school by an obviously proud director. We could have a glimpse into a clasroom and were impressed by the friendlyness of the students as well as the tidyness of the campus.
For sailors (like us) it is a great goal to achieve in a day sailing excoursion. The “Misty Morning” offers a ride throughpartly blue water. To get there and back, inclusive an excellent lunch at Thelma’s restaurant takes from around 9am (Departure Boracay) to four in the afternoon.
